Honesty is the best policy. The only real exceptions are items of little consequence - such as deception to cover something that is to be a surprise, or when you are doing something your partner really enjoys and you say that you are fine (when you may have a headache) as you are choosing to not bring them down when there is nothing they can do about it anyway. It may not be true, but it isn't dishonest in spirit.
