She is very close to her family, but for sure over time she has evolved to be closer to me as our relationship has grown. Our priorities are completely focused on each other.

Me. My partner isn't that close with his family at all. I am, however, close with both of our families.
I disagree. I am close with certiain members of my family, and not with others. The same goes for me and your family; I am closer with some members, but not with others.

In a general sense that is true. I feel I am closest to my brother. I love my mom, but our relationship is difficult at times. Although I might be able to call my cousins for help/advice, I don't feel comfortable doing that. I am closest to my Uncle 'J' as far as my extended family goes, but I feel that is only because of the lack of relationship with my Dad.

We both are closer to each other than anyone else on the planet. We are together today because we were both raised by wolves.

Way closer to my wife than family...
She's got a huge family and is very close to most of them. But it's us that is building a new family together, so we both see us as the closest person.
I don't see closeness as a competition. There's some things you want and need your family always to be there for, and there's some roles best played by a partner. I like the way she is tight with her family and puts importance on seeing them and talking to them, especially from a distance. But I don't take that as a lack of closeness to me - quite the contrary I'd be uncomfortable to to be the only person of importance. This is a really great answer, and a good perspective. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. There are different ways that we're close to other people, and that it's not about competition. Many times it's hard not to see things as competitive in life and love.
