Useful
I think a surprise is much more enjoyable. You can get something useful anytime.
Something useful that happens to be a big surprise! ;)
Useful is nice, but the absolute best gifts are unexpected. This says to me that I was on his mind and was important enough for him to take the time out of his day to do something special for me.
Surprise! My favorite presents are 1.jewelry or 2.something I was too cheap to buy myself but I really wanted!
Oh really??
