I've had a lifetime of useful. If it is something for the house or to aid in chores it should be a rwgular household purchase and not a gift. Gifts should reflect the underlying nature of the relationship between giver and receiver.

Why not both? :))Somethings that shows he put thought into it.

A big suprise

Surprise, duh

A big surprise is way more fun. Useful is something I would buy myself.

Useful with occasional surprises.

yeah agreed. don't want junk to clutter things up

It depends... I tend to ask for practical gifts for holidays but surprise "I love you" gifts should be fun!

A big surprise! If I want something useful I'll get it for myself.

Useful I can buy myself. So surprises are always better :)

Either/or, since I love presents!

Being a guy, I'd say something practical and useful. That being said, I don't have to know what it is, if it's a surprise.
She has gotten me gifts that let me know how much she loves me, of which were wonderful surprises.

Tough question. Love both. Love what I need but think its really romantic when its a surprise.

Big surprises are always amazing but sometimes useful things have to be there as well :)

Algo útil. Si es útil y es sorpresa, mejor.
